Sometimes you ask yourself why we go so far away to find the snow! Snow is always snow even on the volcanoes! However, this trip is unique; local spice gives a different flavour to our climbs and our turns.
It will have taken four trips to Chile to fine-tune our journey around these massive pyramids of ice and basalt... but we think we've got it right..
This is a journey where it's important to be flexible, where we adapt our itinerary according to the best weather. We are able to do this because we drive our own vehicles and they give us tremendous freedom and flexibilty to make changes at short notice. In addition we are travelling in their low season, so we can find nice places to stay.
Driving along Chile's amazing straight roads that stretch as far as the eye can see, gives you a real sense of travelling, and skiing down the magnificent slopes of the volcanoes marries perfectly with the discovery of the country and its lovely people.
For this Chilean cuvée 2010, we were able to put together a totally French group...and all of them from the South West!! From Bayonne to Collioure via the Central Pyrénées, we blended a group clearly aimed at a passion for skiing, laughter and teasing! The party animals amongst us caused mayhem in the few towns we visited but this never stopped us achieving our goal: we summited 8 volcanoes, from Thermas de Chillian to Puerto Montt, with some memorable descents on the most perfect spring snow...
We are planning to go back in September 2011...
