It had been an age since I had last done the tour of the Grande Casse! Given the success of the previous tour to the Albaron, I didn't hesitate for a second. Even if the Vanoise Park has a low snow cover, it remains a great solution for this weird and rather sunny spring!
We enjoyed some fabulous skiing this week around the Mean Martin, the Dome de Gefret, the Pointe de Rechasse and the Col de la Grande Casse. No great adventures this time but instead pure pleasure on skis, a feast for the eyes and the joy of re-connecting with my old friends the keepers of the huts at Fond des Fours and La Femma - Manu and Claire!
Jeremy Cole has been skiing with me ever since I first started skiing in Val and the fact of returning to the place of our first ski tour together almost fifteen years ago (...) clearly makes me feel nostalgic... and as you rightly said to me Jeremy: " we've done some pretty cool stuff together"! Winter after winter, tour after tour, you have been there in the group with your indomitable spirit: the pleasure of spending time in the mountains, with real friends - as equals- who you know for sure that in any event will remain cheerful and enthusiastic....
Mountains are a conduit for simple values and when you experience them intensely they become a source of great happiness! Effort, solidarity, adaptation and humility in the face of the environment in which you find yourself.. It might seem naive or perhaps even banal to bandy words like these around.....But in the ever more complex world we live in that is infected by competition and the hunger for gain without a consideration for your neighbour, I like to come back to this wisdom of the heart and to nature is so lacking in our society and in our daily lives.....
I'd like to thank Jeremy, Dave, Philip, Richard, David and Chris for this wonderful slice of life and I take my hat off to Philip.......You bluffed us all!!
Tour de la grande Casse: Encore plus classique mais quel ski!!
Cela faisait des lustres que je n'avais fait ce tour de la Grande Casse! Et je n'ai pas hésiter un instant au vu de mon raid précédent; La Vanoise même peu enneigé, reste un bon plan en ce printemps bizarre mais plutôt ensoleillé!
Du grand ski de printemps cette semaine autour de la Méan Martin, du dôme de Gefret, de la pointe de Réchasse et du col de la Grande Casse. Pas d'exploit mais que du plaisir sous les spatules, et sous nos yeux, et beaucoup de bonheur à revoir mes copines gardiennes des refuges du Fond des Fours et de la Femma: Manu et Claire!
Jeremy Cole skie avec moi presque depuis mes débuts à Val, et le fait de revenir sur ce tout premier raid fait ensemble il y a presque 15 ans (....) incite nécessairement à la nostalgie... Comme tu me l'as dit ou fait comprendre Jeremy, on a fait de chouettes trucs ensemble! Hiver après hiver, raid après raid, tu as constitué ce groupe solidaire, à l'état d'esprit irréprochable: le plaisir d'être en montagne avant tout, sans élitisme, avec des amis sincères qui quoi qu'il arrive, restent positifs et enthousiastes...
La montagne est vecteur de valeurs simples et quand elles sont vécues intensément, sont source d'un grand bonheur! Effort, solidarité, adaptation et humilité face au milieu dans lequel on évolue... Cela peut paraître bien naïf ou benet de déblatérer des phrases-bateau comme celles-ci! Mais dans un monde de plus en plus complexe, gangréné par la compétition et l'appât du gain sans se soucier de son voisin, j'aime à revenir à cette intelligence du coeur et de la nature qui manque tellement dans nos sociétés et nos vies quotidiennes...
Merci à Jeremy, Dave, Philip, Richard, David, Chris, pour cette belle tranche d'humanité, et un coup de chapeau à Philip! tu nous a tous bluffé !!!...
